This paper takes the composition and performance of piano works by a Chinese contemporary composer and piano performer named Cui Shiguang(1948-)as the research object.According to the different composing time and style, this paper chooses three representative works to study, namely By the Songhua River(1967),Liu Tianhua Impromptus(1998)and Shangri-La(2007).By the Songhua River is a war song written by Zhang Hanhui in 1935.In 1967,Cui Shiguang adapted it into a piano work of the same name.He retained the melody of the original song and made full use of Western composing techniques to reflect the feeling of leaving home and the pain of national distress.Liu Tianhua Impromptus was composed by Cui Shiguang after he settled in Hong Kong. This piece only uses the melodic fragments of Liu Tianhua's Erhu Music as its inspiration. The rich piano texture and piano skills embodied in the music highlight the pianist's composing ability, and the music contains the miniature of Chinese traditional music culture.Shangri-La,originally a violin piece,is the third in the suite Meeting at the Horizon which is composed by Cui Shiguang in 1998 based on the novel Meeting at the Horizon. The composer made full use of the characteristics of Chinese national folk music and western composing techniques to depict a fairyland-like picture and a fascinating artistic conception, which is very fantastic. The main melody contains the motive of Yunnan folk songs. In the process of composing the three piano works, the composer always adheres to the principle of "Intergration of East and West",which is both national and contemporary. In his works, the characteristics of piano are played everywhere,it can be seen that the topic in this paper has certain theoretical significance and research value.Based on Cui Shiguang's composing experience, this paper will analyze his three important piano works, and analyze his playing techniques and composing ideas from his works. His piano works show the piano art with Chinese characteristics to the whole world, and publicize the spiritual outlook and ideological height of Chinese musicians. It is an important repertoire for piano performers to learn Chinese works. Therefore,I hope that through research and performance, more people will know and play Cui Shiguang's works.
