Some literary materials and allusions which come from the Bible have great and long-term influence in the development of western literature. Except its own literature wealth, it provides important patterns and many materials, for the type, form and narration of western literature.Moreover, the connection between literature and the Bible, which is the main line in the process of western Literature, has been stretching today, and was never suspended because of religion crises or modernization of literature. The 20th century western novels inherit this advantage. Biblical complex is still original materials for many writers and the basic form of connotation for many works. The Thorn Birds that was writtenby Collon·McCullough is a good example.The Thorn Birds is a world-renowned family fiction that narrates the life experiences and the emotion course about the Krishna three generations, taking the Deluohaida pasture of rich Australian custom as the background, treating the unforgettable love between rancher Krishna's daughter Mejid and Catholic priest Ralph as a guiding line.The paper considered that the Thorn Birds and the Bible had the close relation on structure symbol, character archetype, Eros and taboo, by drawing upon archetypal critical theory, applying intertextuality theoryin the close read. The novel also assimilated deeply Collon·McCullough'sreligious view, and the writer had keen insight on original sin and confucianists of Christianity, furthermore, not only criticized the Christian faith and culture but also inherited from it.
