Study On Cultural Differences And Culture Shock Under Cultural Dimensions

Nowadays, as the trend of economic globalization seems more and more obvious and the development of the internet combines the world together, the cultures on this planet would not develop independently but influence mutually to form the coexistence condition of multiculturalism. The communication among different cultures would be more and more frequent, so people could not be carefree and content staying in just one corner of the world alone, hence the communication of greater frequency among cultures will be the trend of the times. It has significant meaning to improve the efficiency of cross-cultural communication so as to promote the cause of cross-cultural communication in the current world of economic globalization.However, how to recognize the cultural differences, cultural conflicts and how to make interactive cultural communication would be the pivot points to improve cross-cultural communication efficiency. Taking in cultural sense, this thesis attempts to draw lessons from cross-cultural communication theories, especially cultural dimension theories to present, to ascertain and to analyze the cultural differences among cross-cultural main bodies and the emergence of cultural barriers and culture shock in detail so as to draw our attention and recognition to cultural differences and culture shock, eventually to lead more and more people to be concerned with the practical and theoretical study of cross-cultural communication.In the meanwhile, this thesis also borrows good ideas to overcome cultural differences and culture shock both home and abroad. Through analyzing the causes in both virtual and real typical cases of cultural conflicts, it digs out the deep cultural reasons behind these cases, raises the cultural identification and catholicity, finally finds out the means to solve the contradiction and probes into the Chinese cross-cultural communication strategies. The purpose of thesis is not only to prepare for theory study, but also to give methodological suggestions to cross-cultural communication cause in order to make it to go on smoothly and quickly.This paper consists of six chapters. The first chapter analyzes the concept, the characteristics and the elements of culture. The second part is a theoretical one which makes use of the two most famous cultural analysis models—value orientation model and national cultural model to make qualitative and quantitative analyses of the differences among cultures so as to study the differences in a new angle of view. The third chapter demonstrates the concept and knowledge of culture shock, its relationship with cultural differences and its deep cultural causes. The fourth chapter is transitional part, in which the concept, theory and process of cultural adaptation are illuminated in detail, preparing the basic theoretical supports for the study of cross-cultural communication methodologies in next chapter. Based on the knowledge interrelated with culture, cultural differences, cultural shock and cultural adaptation in former chapters, the fifth part would like to discuss the methodologies of cross-cultural communication. The goal of this chapter is to give methodological suggestions in concrete technical aspect, fundamental sense and practical comprehensive means to overcome cultural conflicts and culture shock in order to find a way to solve the problem existing in communications, eventually, to build a better cross-cultural communication relationship. In the very final chapter, the author illustrates some research thoughts and outlooks of Chinese cross-cultural communication cause.
