Folk song, as a oral creation of labor people, has made great contributions to the development of Chinese literature. No one period in history like 20 century, however, can enter the literary palace hall, become the main direction of poet development, occupy the prime position of literary history and bring the major influence upon contemporary literature, even the whole society.The paper discusses gain and loss of folk song from May Fourth period to the 1958 in construction of new poets, tries to probe the intrinsic cause that new folk song has happened by outlining this main literary phenomenon. The paper has four chapters: first, to illustrate May Fourth new poets revolution in the wave to plebeianize and gain and loss of new poet lyrical space and quest that pioneers look for its development way. Second, to discourse the role that folk song construct new poet. Third, to describe historically folk song phenomenon in construction of new poet modernization during 20-40s, to analyze the price new poet has paid in course of construction. Fourth, to inspect new folk song campaign in 1958 and comment how folk language caters for power one to lead to the loss of folk spirit.It can be said that the development process of 40s new poet is the very one that folk song is occupying continually main stream of the literature, and one that poet is closing continually politics even to dissect it. The aftermath this process has brought not only make folk song lost the meaning toward new poet development but also is a great destruction toward folk song itself, and affect seriously its sound development.
