Research And Exploration Over The Direction Of Contemporary Realistic Painting Style

Realistic painting once took the mainstream position for a long time in the development of Chinese oil painting. At present, Chinese modern art has made great progress, yet, generally speaking, realistic painting is still the most important part of Chinese oil painting. As an alien art form, oil painting was first introduced into Chinese continent by western missionaries. The history of Chinese oil painting can be traced back to Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the beginning of 20th century, under the historically cultural background of "Western cultures spreading to the East"—western culture is transplanted to Chinese continent in a large scale, Chinese oil painting began to grow root and burgeon in the true sense. However Chinese oil painting possesses evidently realistic features.Through the development and evolution of over one hundred years, Realistic painting has obtained remarkable achievement due to the preserving exploration and expanding of several generations. It not only takes a important position in Chinese contemporary oil painting history, but also gradually gains popularity all over the world. Looking back to the historical development of Chinese oil painting vertically, owing to the influence of social background, cultural environment, art thought, value pursuit, aesthetic tastes and many other factors, the style orientations of individuals in their realistic paintings vary in different periods. Till modern times, exposed to the modern Western art theories and thoughts trends, Chinese realistic oil painting also confronts many problems: how to define the concept of realistic painting; how to express and create realistic painting of different styles; how to strike a balance between traditional criterions and modern development and expanding; how to response to the expectation of embodying the national culture and spirit; and how to further develop and diversify the realistic painting realistic painting. The thesis is trying to expound the realistic painting from the following aspects: the definition and discuission of the realistic painting, the development history of realistic painting in China, researching and exploring the style orientations of Chinese modern relistic painting, the problems that Chinese realistic painting confronts and the future road that Chinese realistic painting will take, in the hope to understand the realiatic painting more profoundly and comprehensively .
