LinYu Tang is not only a litteratuer but also a translator, philosepher, linguistics, historian, writer and educator in modern Chinese literatur. Lin has a deep understanding of Chinese and western culture and he has special interpretations of masterpieces in world literature. He has produced a lot of novels in English, such as "changes of lives in Pekin" , "the house of the rich", "the red peony", "China town", "Lai Bo Ying" and "the wonder land". Some of his novels involve religion, for instance "from a pagan to a Christian". Lin has tried to introduce Chinese culture to westerners through his works such as "my country and my fellow Chinese", "the wisdom of Confucious", "the wisdom of Laozi", "the glorious Peking". Lin' works are special and they have become the cultural heritages in modern China. For a long time, the academics in China comment Lin Yu Tang as philistinilism, shallowness, narrowness .Lin has been misunderstood as a writer who lacks sense of cothurnus and depths. This is not compatible with Lin's real life experience and his works. In fact, Lin has a deep understanding of the tragic of life and he has profoundly deep perceptions of the world and lives on earth. The dissertation will try to analyze Lin's sense of cohunes in his work "changes of lives in Peking" in three ways. The first part of the dissertation will discuss the reasons for Lin's sense of cohering his works. The second part will focus on the interpretation of the novel "changes of lives in Peking" and analyze the connotation of Lin's sense of cohunes. In the last part of the dissertation, I wil analyze the forms of Lin's sense of otherness in his works. Lin's sense of cohunes should not be regarded as sense of negativeness, on the contrary, his works represent a positive and enterprising attitude. The dissertation tries to bring forth new ideas by interpreting Lin's magnum opus and indicating Lin's uniqueness of his sense of cohunes in his works.
