Lu Xun and Nietzsche, whose starting point of life aesthetics was the sense of going to doom, had much in agreements and also in conflicts on the idea of tragedy. The agreements were shown in their strong caring for the "activity" in their songs about suffering life, while differences in their own recognition and elucidation of the concept of "doom", reason and non-reason of tragedy, reality and non-reality of tragedy, and the loftiness of tragedy, etc, for their different life attitudes in different historical and cultural situation. Especially, on the effect of tragedy they explained their own distinctive idea of tragedy in details with regard to their understandings of the "pleasance in tragedy" and relative aesthetic criticisms initiated by them.By the comparison, we see that Lu Xun and Nietzsche looked through modern people's withered culture and weak spirit that were examined as the "lack of tragic spirit" and they tried to call for the return of the tragic spirit. Myth, as the spirit phenomenon and value yardstick, was borrowed in their description of and calling for the tragic spirit and their own culture choice to different degree.
