China's histories of painting in flowers and birds, which has their comparative independence, take on different skills and forms in different historical periods. However, different painting styles and characters feature new creations and art attractions which are based on former achievements. As a painter in Ming Dynasty, Lv Ji enjoyed a high reputation. His painting in flowers and birds is characterized by bright color, special brushwork and function of expostulation in addition to great magnificence, which was due to his excellent use of the image elements and was praised by the world. Lv Ji's use of image elements has two features: diversity and simile, that is, diversity and simile of flowers and birds, diversity and simile of water elements. Especially the appropriate use of simile skill in image element can be considered as his specialty of painting in flowers and birds. The production of these characteristics is not a random but a destiny. The reason is that, on the one hand, it's narrowly related with Lv Ji's inheritance from his teacher, the background of his living age and the emperor's concept of taste; on the other hand, it's the necessary development process of painting in flowers and birds. Due to the characters mentioned above, Lv Ji's painting art not only was paid great attention and praise, but also influenced the later painting in flowers and birds permanently. Additionally, it plays a important role in the painting style in institutes and influence the literary brushwork in flowers and birds greatly.
