Distinguish between true and fake is a basal work in traditional science. It is a important facet of philology. The literatures of Inscriptions on a tablet occupy biggish proportion in unearthed documents. These literature saved abundance materials for archaeology history, accent words study of art history, literature, economics, law, philosophy etc. and natural science. Resulted from the great value of the literatures of Inscriptions on a tablet itself, there are many counterfeit materials made in the sake of getting profits. Consequently, the study becomes harder and harder with the increasing appearances of fake materials. If we could not distinguish the true from the fake, we are bound to make not only great troubles to the study of inscription, but also great negative infections to those cultural relic collectors .With the respect to this paper ,the essence purpose of it is to reveal what is true and what is fake. Besides ,it offers credibility materials for study and appreciate.This paper clean up the theories in distinguishing inscriptions, including the books of rubbings as well as models of handwritings studied by the predecessors in this field. This works trace back to the rise of epigraph's ,so there are many experiences. But most of them are scattered in some scholar's works, which makes it difficult to investigate in to. Even worse, most of the businessman of relics are individual absences of logical thinking and it goes without any system research. In this degree, the paper is to make a systemic collect work.This paper includes five chapters. Chapter one is an prolegomenon to introduce the actuality andvalue of the study--distinguishing between true and fake. Chapter two gives a general explanation ofinscriptions as well as books of rubbings and the model of handwritings from two aspects: concept and regimentation, In addition, I list the typical representatives for each style preparing for the later work. Chapter three is the most important one which refers the research of theoretic on the study of distinguishing. Firstly, it states the concept and the value of distinguishing between true and fake, then it tells the achievements gained by the former researchers. Finally it summarizes the tricks in falsifying and clears up the ways and evidences used by former pursuers. Chapter four gives examples of distinguishing and to analyze some fake models from inscriptions, books of rubbings and the model of handwritings in order to get deeper understanding of ways to distinguish. Chapter five bring the reasons and value of falsifying to light .Secondly it sums up the styles and instruments in the fake models and clarifies the negative and positive effects in its exist according to the former analyzes. At last, the attached list provides some of the literatures' fake model's catalogues in the benefit of readers.
