The rank and salary Zhou Dynasty, formed on the basis of Shang Dynasty, is an important political system. Currently accepted ranks of the Shang Dynasty are marguis and earl. Marguis and earl are notconferred to the imperial family ,but rather to acknowledge the political status of these conferred. On such basis , Zhou Dynasty has established the five-lord system(duck, marquis, earl, viscount, baron) These ranks are conferred to members of the imperial family as well as some highofficials. This rank system is characterized by the integration of blood relations with those political rebtions. More importantly, as an esscntial component of the music and cartesy system, the five-rank system embodies the rulers of Zhou Dynasty. With the economic, political and cultural changes in the Spring and Warring periods, the drawbanks of the system are becoming increasingly, obvious, thus, the five-rank system has been reformed and abolished in many kingdoms. Five-rank system evolved into enfeoffment system and 20 rank system based on military feats represented by Qin kingdom. To meet this requirement, the Western Zhoujitian system and Dubi system have also evolved into Lumi system. The rank system based on military feats and Lumi system of Warring states period have basically laid foundations for the rank and salary from that period to the Qing Dynasty, and have profound impact on the rank and salary system lasting more than two thousand years.
