Pragmatic Study Of Chinese Figures Of Speech

The most important function on figure of speech is expression. It expresses more profound semantics and variable tone through using specific spoken language form. which makes the expressions more vivid. Different from the traditional rhetoric, the thesis presents the Chinese figure of speech from pragmatic angle. It discloses the social psychology and cultural consciousness in using rhetoric, as a result, it is benefit to understand and use all kinds of rhetoric methods for people in the social communication.Based on the former research findings, the paper analysed twenty-one figures of speech in Chinese Language by pragmatics theory. This will be the innovation of the text.This text consists of five parts. The first part reviews the history of the studies on figure of speech, and introduces the development of pragmatics. Also analysing the figure of speech of breaching the cooperative principle,thus producing the conversational implicature and rhetorical meaning can help us to understand and use various figure of speech in social commiucations. The second part is theoretical framework of pragmatic meaning in figure of speech, including the Foreign scholar's speech act theory, theory of conversational implicature, politeness principles and Local scholar's principle of appropriateness. The third part is the analysis of pragmatic on figure of speech, which analyses how the figure of speech breaches a certain standard within conversational-cooperative principle, futher analyses that it makes pragmatic meaning . The fourth part is comprehensive application of the cooperation principle, which discusses pragmatic meaning when figure of speech breachs two and more cooperation principles. The fifth part is conclusion, which sums up that it isn't enough to explain the creation and use of the figure of speech only by studying the situation of breaching the cooperative principle. While it can make some connections between the pragmatic and the rhetoric, which result in better understanding and using of all kinds of rhetoric methods. Furthermore it has practical significance.
