| When initial onset cue is visual or auditory modality, but subsequent onset target is auditory or visual modality after a temporal interval, the response to the target at the cued location is slower than at the uncued location, the mechanism is called"cross visual and auditory modality inhibition of return". So have two combination modes: the visuo-auditory inhibition of return and the audio-visual inhibition of return. The central reorienting event is inserting some sudden dot in the temporal interval between the periphery cue and subsequent target as the fixation cue.There are one prep-experiment and two formal experiments in this study. The prep-experiment is one factor within-subject design, have two levels. Verify the discrimination of the sound from the right sound box or the left sound box, in order to review the difficulty about the empirical formula. All the formal experiments are within-subject design of 2×2×3×3. The experiment 1(A) and experiment 1(B) respectively discuss if having visuo-auditory inhibition of return and audio-visual inhibition of return in cue-target pattern of detection task, and the effect of CRE. The experiment 2(A) and experiment 2(B) respectively discuss if having visuo-auditory inhibition of return and audio-visual inhibition of return in cue-target mode of discrimination task.The result of experiment 1 showed cross-model inhibition of return about visual and auditory in the detection task. So we get the conclusion that the empirical formula isn't effect the cross-model inhibition of return about visual and auditory. But due to the discrepancy of visual modality and auditory modality, so the visuo-auditory inhibition of return and audio-visual inhibition have different mechanisms, not only affected by the periphery cue fashion, but also affected by the different of CRE and SOA. The result of experiment 2 has not show cross-model inhibition of return about visual and auditory in the detection task. Testify the cross-model inhibition of return about visual and auditory has not universality, providing more evidence for Spence's theory that attention effect has the modality differential, but exist mutual connect in specifically assignment requirement. |
