On The Aesthetic Characteristics Of Dance

"As far as realistic and cultural significance is concerned, the function of dance is shrinking in society. But from the perspective of the aesthetical characteristics of dance, dance at present is making good progress "[1]. However, comprehensive research on the aesthetical characteristics of dance is insufficient at present; this thesis is going to apply related aesthetical theories to researching this issue comprehensively.The thesis involves three parts. The first part mainly discusses the aesthetic characteristics of the Chinese classical dance, the Chinese national folk-dance, the ballet and the modern dance. Although very dance depends on the body movement to express feelings and ideas, different dances still contain different aesthetical characteristics. The inheritance is the main aesthetic characteristic of the Chinese classical dance which inherits the Chinese traditional culture and the Chinese national qualities and the Chinese classical spirit. The Chinese national folk-dance consists of the primary folk-dance, the institutesend folk-dance and the ethnic minority dance. The aesthetical characteristics of the folk-dance are mainly performing attributes, national color and folk distinction. The aesthetic characteristics of the institutesend folk-dance include mainly performing attributes, folk color and ethnic feature. The aesthetic characteristics of ethnic minority dance mainly consist of performing attributes, national color and folk features. The west ballet, a dance based on the inheritance and improvement of the western imperial palace style, is an embodiment of the common characteristics of the western traditional arts. As the typical representative of west traditional dances, the aesthetic characteristics of the west ballet consist in its inheritance of the western imperial palace style, western traditional culture and western spirit. The ballet is germinated in west, but it contains different characteristics while combined with different cultures, which is regarded by the academic circles as the nationalization of the ballet. For example, the ballet becomes a fresh ballet of Chinese features while absorbed in the Chinese culture. Its aesthetic characteristics are mainly: to express the social life in the form of west ballet and therefore renders it with spirit of Chinese people. The west modern dance rebels to the west ballet; it has no fixed system and is mainly a dance to express by shape. Generally speaking, the theme of the west modern dance is abstract with incompact structure. Its main characteristics are its rebellion to the tradition and its emphasis on individuality. The aesthetic characteristics of it are mainly rebellion, shaping and individuality. The Chinese modern dance comes from the ideas of the west modern dance and the Chinese culture. The aesthetic characteristics of it are mainly: abiding by the notions and techniques of creation, expressing the national spirit of Chinese people as well as the realistic features. The second part mainly deals with the aesthetic characteristics of dance's elementary aspects. Arts of dance is made up of many elementary aspects, including content, form, feeling, music, dancing and etc. the characteristic of the content of dance refer mainly to the movements contained in the chosen theme as well as the realistic feature contained in the theme. The aesthetic characteristics of form include: the movement should be regular, rhythmic, hypothetical, simulation, vivid, polysemy, rich in meaning and so on; and the aesthetic character of the language mainly lie in its simplicity and unity, creativeness and richness in kind, being imagery and so on. The aesthetical characteristics of feeling of the dance are mainly: sentiment, imagination and so on. The aesthetical characteristics of the music in dance include its function as something to subordinate, to assist, to connect and so on. The aesthetic characteristics of dancing include suggestibility, sign and so on. The third part of this thesis concentrates itself on the analyzing the aesthetical characteristics of the dance arrangement process, the dance performance process and the dance appreciation process. Any dance has the process. The accomplishment of any work of dance cannot escape preparing process. A work of dance face is truly completed only when it faces the audience and is appreciated or accepted by the audience. Difference processes have different aesthetical characteristics. For instance, in the process of dance arrangement, the main aesthetical characteristics are those of life, emotion, typicality and so on. The aesthetic characteristics of the dance performance process include: "Two creations", dynamic image, ideal condition and so on. The aesthetic characteristics of the dance appreciation process include intuition, knowing immediately, common, individuality, selectivity, imagination, creativity, restriction and so on.
