| By the methods of determining the nature and quantitative research,this paper makes the research on the comparison of politics newsheadlines and entertainment news headlines, describes the languagefeatures and distribution differences and attempts to make explanationsfrom Halliday's functional grammar and register theory.The paper includes the following four parts:In the first part, the main contents are the introduction about theobjects of this paper, the current research and the aim, meaning of thepaper.In the second part, the main contents are brief introduction of thetheory frame of the quantitative study——Halliday's functional grammarand the specific quantitative method and the final statistics.In the third part, the detailed difference of political news headlinesand entrainment news headlines are described and compared by using the3 metafunctions of functional grammar, i.e. experiential function,interpersonal function and textual function and the subsystems of eachmetafunctions with the quantitative results.In the fourth part, the explanations of differentiation about thecontent and form of the politics news headlines and the entertainmentnews headlines are made by using the register theory, i.e. the filed ofdiscourse, the tenor of discourse, and the mode of discourse.
