Born and grew up in Algeria, Albert Camus is a French writer. He won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1957, being the youngest writer that has won the supreme honor. His novels-The Stranger,Plague and so forth, are influential rarities for his generation.Cultural identity is a buzzword today which "is used to describe the consciousness of self found in the modern individual". In most situations, the cultural identity of an individual is not always unchangeable which is always shaped and endowed new meaning in the interaction with the outside world.This thesis, taking Camus' multi-cultural status as subject, mainly analyses the conflicts between cultural statuses his works real, and take the cultural origin and philosophic affiliation of his status choice.At first, this thesis makes some analysis about the father-seeking process and the images of some Blackfoot Frenchmen and North Africa Natives. Secondly, it does some extension analysis on the specific role conflicts brought about by the status of the Blackfoot Frenchmen. Thirdly, it also analyses the connotation of the status changed from the poor to the elites. Finally, it also deals with the life and cultural sources upon which Camus made his choice of status, and makes a philosophical conclusion about his final choice. The author believes: Camus is profoundly influenced in his works by his multi-cultural status. However, he had made positive humanitarian choic with historic insight rather than being bogged down in it. What Camus did contributed much to the construction of new humanism in the 20th century.
