Studies About The Charity Affairs Of The Buddism During The Sui And Tang Dynasties

The commonweal projects of Buddism during sui and tang Dynasties have palyed animportant part in old China. Maily basing on source material, this paper attempts to do asystematic dissertation and textual research from aspects as follow: the origins ofcharity thoughts, charity, propagranda, temple economy, life care, and environmentalprotection, tree-panting and forestation, bridges, roads and irragation infrustructure. It ischief aim to recover the historical concept of the Buddism common-weals as possible anddescribe the relationships between the temple economy and charity affairs, commonwealsand society, and analyse the factors of its flowering, characteristics and roles. It isconcluded that the charity affairs during this period is an important phase in thedevelopment of Buddism, have effected positively on the society at that time, and palyedan immeasurably roles for maintaining the society order and developing the economy andculture.
