With the rapid development of commodity economy in Tang and Song Dynasties which graduallypenetrated to the field of social and cultural life, the prosperity of the temple fair was the obvious example.Tang and Song Dynasty temple fair was widely distributed.The Tang Dynasty temple fair was mostlyconcentrated in the capital, whereas the Song Dynasty temple fair throughout the urban and rural areas.What’s more, various type temple fairs were hold by the temple fair time, place and activities. Tang andSong Dynasty temple fair can be divided into Regular temple fair and Temporary temple fair,City templefair and Village temple fair, Pilgrimage temple fair and Idolatrous temple fair.Tang and Song Dynasties’ temple fair activities, incorporated religious festival, cultural andrecreational activities, commercial and trade activities of these three categories.Religious festival activitiesinclude Buddhist temple fair,Taoist temple fair worship ritual activities and folk customs temple fairtemple will worship; Temple fair cultural and recreational activities includes drama and other folk literatureand art activities; Temple fair commercial and trade activities content including food,daily provisions andother service goods.Compared with the Tang Dynasty, festivals during Five Dynasties period were to befurther developed. Furthermore, the Song Dynasty’s festival, showed new changes, getting larger and richerin content, main performance for religious festival temple fair activity is increasingly secular, temple faircultural and recreational activities more diverse, temple fair commercial and trading activities graduallyspecialization,especially with the organic combination of the temple fair and Festivals, the temple fair wasdeeply rooted in the soil of traditional culture and passed on since then.The management of the temple fair in Tang and Song dynasties had begun to take shape. Whether theofficial having managed the temple fair of religion, entertainment and commercial activities, or temple fair’civil organizers, organization and management costs, had had a major impact on the development of thetemple fair.The official to temple fair activities both support and limit, through the legal and administrativeand so on many kinds of methods, temple fair implementation intervention activities. For the temple fairreligious activities,on one hand,the official set up religious rite, host buddhistisches ritual activities; On theother hand, strictly limited new buildings, according to the needs of the rulers to repair or reconstruction.For the temple fair entertainment activities, both set up special organizations official, give management personnel; and given repeatedly ban, limit temple fair art performance.For the temple fair businessactivities, the official crack down on monopolistic activities, reduce or remit taxes, maintain the normalorder of the temple fair business activities. Tang Dynasty civil temple fairs had formed their inherentorganizers and organizations, and also specialized staff being responsible for collecting management fees.It is clear that Song inherited Tang system, and organization and management of the temple fair had beenevolved much more perfect.The reason related to the prosperity of the Tang and Song Dynasty temple fair is complex. Officialsand people’s psychological need is the direct incentive for the flourished temple fair; easily accessibletransportation by land and sea is the external condition for flourished temple fair, the social atmosphere ofluxurious pleasure is the main driving force of the flourished temple fair.Tang and song dynasties, the fulltemples, religious activities were very prosperous.The rise of the temple fair not only promoted social lifein this period,but also had significant effects on the development of Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties’temple fair. The close integration of the temple fair and theater of the Tang and Song dynasties laidfoundation for the independent development of the Jin and Yuan Dynasties’ temple fair play. At the sametime, the prosperity of the business activities of temple fair in this period also had a profound impact on thefull flourishing of the temple fair in Ming and Qing Dynasties. In addition, the temple fair in Tang andSong dynasties was also a kind of tourism resource, meeting the social atmosphere being pursuit of leisureand entertainment, which verified people’s leisure and entertainment.
