Combining social situation, cultural traditions and trend of thought in fictionwriting in Ming Dynasty, this paper focuses on discussing and analyzing novelsby Xiong Damu from various perspectives by means of making comparisonbetween different works. Meanwhile, the paper also tries to explicitly elaboratethe origin, evolution and influences of an extraordinary phenomenon thatbookstore keeper in Dynasty took on novel writing. In the course of sorting outthe sequences of historical novel development, the paper makes attempts tofigure out the law of development from an all-round and objective perspective.Firstly, the paper analyzes under what background Xiong Damu's views onhistorical development took shape and how they were reflected in his novels.Secondly, based on Xiong's four novels, the paper fully elaborates their artisticcharacteristics; thirdly, relations between Xiong Damu's novels and popularstories in the Yuan Dynasty, dramas of Song and Yuan Dynasties, hand-copiedbooks in Ming Dynasty are again probed. It is from the content, style, was ofpresenting history, thought features that analysis is made about the change frominheritance to development. Meanwhile, it presents the development track fromSong and Yuan novels of fabulizing history to novels of historical romance inMing dynasty. Lastly, the paper puts focus on the discussion of the contributionsmade by Xiong Damu to the development of historical novels involving manyaspects like concept of novel, theme, and style. By redefining so-called "XiongDamu Mode", the paper elaborates the novels by Xiong Damu and the essence of"Xiong Damu Phenomenon" caused by the former.
