Chang An city was both the political and cultural center of TangDynasty. The government of Tang Dynasty took the etiquette seriously, therefore, theybuilt some ritual architecture. These architectures distributed in Chang An cityeverywhere, they made up the ritual space of Tang Dynasty. Do research on themmeans too much to understand the great Chang an city comprehensively and thehistory and culture of Tang Dynasty. The author did research on the basis of old ones,and recollected some literature materials and archaeology materials, profoundlyexplored the location,building,transformation,shape of these ritual architectures.The research about ritual architectures and ritual space is a weak point in thehistory research of Tang Dynasty. Many studies only paid attention to the research oftheir location and shape, but this article did research on their using in terms of tables,and included some basic regulations. Especially to the Wang Chun building in whichpredecessors had not set foot, the author did some creative research.In all, this article based on former research result, the author gave a definition toconnotation of the ritual architecture, as well as absolutely concern literature andarchaeology material, at the same time, did profound research on the location,construction, transformation, shape, using of the ritual architecture. This article isdivided into five parts:Part one: The main introduction of former studies to Chang An ritual architecturein academic circles, giving a overall commentary to the former research results fromthe achievement and the insufficiency. Predecessor's systematical research resultsabout the ritual architecture just have one monograph, but these research results didn'temphasize the ritual function of those constructions. Therefore, there still has necessityto deepen and expand the predecessor's systematical research results.Part two: Study on the location of offering sacrifices to God. This part deliberatesix places of offering sacrifices to God selectively by the principle of importance andparticularity. They are Temple of Haven, Fang Qiu, Tai She, Tai Miao, Jiu Gong GuiShen altar, Tai Qing Gong. Besides research on their location and shape and so on, theauthor use many tables to include the activity which emperors of Tang Dynasty offered sacrifices to God af Temple of Haven, Fang Qiu, Tai She, Tai Miao, Jiu Gong Gui Shenaltar, Tai Qing Gong. This article did research on their using, as well as summarizedsome basic regulation.Part three: Study on the places of greeting solar terms. Greeting the solar termsis not only etiquette but also folk custom, both the emperors and common people didoffering sacrifice to God. This part focuses on Wang Chun Building of Tang Dynasty,the author criticized approximate location of Wang Chun Building detailed,transformation of Wang Chun Building, and some questions about etiquette of greetingthe solar terms. Otherwise, this part also did research on the greeting the solar terms ofemperors and common people by stages, concluding some basic regulation of greetingthe solar terms. Because greeting the solar terms was very popular in Tang Dynasty,this part also referred to its general situation and influence.Part four: Study on the ritual palace. This part did research on the ritual palacereferring to ten ritual palaces which distributed in Tai Ji palace, Da Ming palace, andXing Qing palace. This part also did research on their location, construction,transformation, shape and using. Otherwise, it also referred to some etiquette of TangDynasty.Part five: Draw a conclusion. This part did historical geography research on thegeography distribution and regulation of ritual architecture from the aspect of cityhistory. And this part also did research on the relation between the distribution of ritualarchitecture and the overall layout of Chang An.In all, this article did detailed research on some ritual architectures based on theredefinition of ritual architectures. And also did a overall research on their location,construction, transformation, shape, using and so on, as well as compared historicalmaterials with the archaeology materials, correcting some false record. Those canimprove the situation of the research of Chang An city greatly.
