Montage, in its origin, is a French architectural term. Since it was employed in movie shooting, its increasing popularity and influence have become so overwhelming that it is now almost a term only used in the movie industry. Obviously, it bears special relations to movie, especially the nature of movie shooting, which has not received enough attention from researchers who most often concentrated on montage itself.This paper looks at montage from the perspective of movie making, by a review of its definition, the application of montage and narrative approaches, the dialectic relations among montage, assumptions and vividness of movie, long-distance shooting and its effects. After investigating montage as an artistic device and approach, so as to obtain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the great possibility of its application in movie creation and promotion.
