With the development of technology, communication among people is becoming more frequent. A good grasp of vocabulary knowledge appears more important to help people get access to information. Thus vocabulary teaching plays a crucial role in language teaching.In the past thirty years, researches on vocabulary have been springing up. In the 1970s, Wilkins (1972) emphasized the importance of vocabulary and said,"Without grammar, little can be conveyed, without vocabulary, nothing can be conveyed."Because of its importance, a deeper study on vocabulary learning strategy and its relationship with vocabulary knowledge is to shed light on vocabulary teaching. So this research is aimed at making a thorough and profound survey on vocabulary knowledge and vocabulary learning strategies used by non-English major students in Inner Mongolia Normal University. It has two tasks: exploring the vocabulary learning strategies and testing the vocabulary depth knowledge, and studying their relationship.The paper consists of six sections. The first section introduces the purposes and meanings of this research. The second section introduces some relative studies and literature review regarding second language learning strategy, vocabulary learning strategy and vocabulary knowledge. The third section deals with the research methods and procedures. The fourth section exposes the relativity between vocabulary depth knowledge and vocabulary learning strategy of non-English major students. The fifth section puts forward some suggestion to vocabulary teaching.
