A Cultural Interpretation Of Self-Strengthen Movement In Dynasty Ching

Self-Strengthen Movement (from 1860 to 1911),was a modern reform withculture-conservativemotion,conductedbyNeo-ConfucianLiteratus.The thesis interprets Self-Strengthen Movement from the viewpoint ofculture philosophy,which consists of four parts: background, process, ideal andsignificance.The study finally led to the conclusion that the essential significance ofSelf-Strengthen Movement is that it raised a culture pattern of Chinese essenceand western utility, endowed the modernization with ethical meaning on theConfucian ground, and digested useful elements from the west civilization torenewtheformwhichrealizesthevaluesofChineseculture.In other words,Self-Strengthen Movement exlored internal impetus in theChinese society and Chinese culture,and at the same time ,it poured the soul ofethicalcultureintothebodyofmodernization.
