Chinese modern print, a new type of drawing, came into being under the influence of western print art. Influenced by the artistic ideological trend dating back to May 4th Movement, with the guidance and support of Mr. Lu Xun, the new type of art got deeply rooted into the special political and cultural environment and with great vitality it developed into the most influential and revolutionary style of art. From the angle of art education, through a lot of documentary study, in view of the development of print education from 1931—1949, the emerge to the time of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and also taking the social and political background into consideration, the paper analyses the features of earlier education of Chinese modern print, the reasons for such features, its achievement and values, mainly from the points of teaching methods, teachers and course design. With a contrast between the conclusion and the reality, and a discussion into the problem of print teaching of today, the paper expects some inspiration to the development of modern print education.This paper consists of seven chapters.Chapter One is an elaboration of the historical background of the emerge of Chinese modern print, including political and artistic trend and the influence of world print.Chapter Two serves as a division of the stages of earlier print education in view of its development and performance.Chapter Three is an elaboration of the education forms mainly of the forms of social and school education.Chapter Four serves as the key part of the paper. With a focus of its characteristics, teaching method and the teachers, this section summaries the features of the earlier modern print.Chapter Five is an introduction to the influence of Lu Xun and Mao Zedong to print education.Chapter Six discusses the problems and the reasons in earlier modern print education;Chapter Seven is a conclusion. It serves as a summary of the achievement and value of earlier modern print education and offers an analysis of the influence and inspiration of the print art during the Republic of China period with a combined study of the present situation of modern print education.
