There is a compact supervisory system in the feudal system of the Song Dynasty of our country.As an important symbol, Investigating Censors were established to supervise the three Imperial Departments and Secretariats and take charge of rectifying the wrongdoings of the Six Imperial Boards. This supervisory system,which once played an important role in picking out the evil of officials,rectifying the administration officials,strictly enforcing laws and punishing corruption and graft at the initial period of Song Dynasty. Investigating Censor System was highly efficient with less effort in improving execution and civil service. This paper describes Investigating Censors on the basis of believable historical materials.Firstly, this paper discusses characteristic, function and some important principles of Investigating Censor, analyses its status in the whole Investigating Censor System, offering the theoretical foundation for ensuing chapters.Secondly, Investigating Censors, produced in Tang Dynasty, had changed in several dynasties. The Investigating Censors of Song Dynasty has exerted directly influence on the consolidation of supervision system of Yuan dynasty,Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.Thirdly, Investigating Censor System has become a precious political and cultural heritage of our country. Therefore,to summarize and to reflect on the characteristics of the supervisory system of Song Dynasty contribute a lot to our research on the practical problems existing in our contemporary supervisory work and fight against corruption.
