The Ci-poem Theory System Study Of Chen Tingzhuo's "Straining Force"

Chen tingzhuo's "Talking about Ci-poem in White Rain Chamber" is one of the most famous Ci-poem theories. Chen was guided by the purpose of "gentle and kind as substance, straining force as function", and made lots of comments about writers and works in Ci-poem territory from Tang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty. He made a comprehensive research by the main and transform thought. Chen picked out many important writers in Ci-poem territory and also gave an evaluation to them. At the same time, Chen's view about Ci-poem's technique, emotion and state were also expressed when he made the comprehensive research about Ci-poem theory.The most prominent theory of Chen was his straining force theory. Some researchers also had made researches around this core in the past time. But it is a pity that in all these studies the entire research of the straining force was omitted. This thesis tries to make up of it and discuss Chen's straining force theory. The research way of the thesis is as following: First, we should understand Chen brought forward his straining force theory which was his focal theory on the basis of the entire study of Ci-poem theory. Second, under the background of the refinement tradition and in the environment of Qing Dynasty's literature which paid much attention to the refinement, we can find that Chen came up with the refinement became necessary. From this it can conclude that Chen's opinion of the refinement inherited Chinese art's character of appreciating refinement. Third, the thesis pays much attention to some categories such as: vital force(Chi),spirit(Gu),strength ,which were often used in Chen's criticism but few people have made research of them until now. Chen made some definition to these categories by straining force, from which we can find that the straining force's status is outstanding. Last, the thesis also studies the implication of "analogy and moving" (BiXing), which has a close relation with the straining force. From this part, we can find Chen had made a big contribution to "analogy and moving" theory. At the same time, the thesis makes a deep research of some internal elements which exist in Chen's straining force thought by way of studying the entire developing trend of "analogy and moving" theory in literature.
