Xiezhen's poem theory inherited Yanyu's. His view reflected Yanyu's influence, and at the same time he also developed Yanyu's opinion. Xiezhen advocated "taking the glorious Tang Dynasty's poetry as rules", and promoted "miraculous awakening alone", "deeply thinking about the most excellent poetry", and he applied "inspire" and "gusto" to discuss poetry and tried to "get spirit" in final world in poetry. All these opinions can be found the similar thoughts in Yanyu's theory. But Xiezhen not just simply inherited Yanyu's theory, Xiezhen also made the concrete and practical development and perfection under his specific historical times. When Xiezhen talked about "formal style", he often concerned "awake". He paid much attention to the poet's factor, and advocated "flexible rules", and also made a forceful amendment to "style".Xiezhen discussed poetry with "feel moved and inspired". Comparing with Yanyu's "inspire and gusto" which emphasized the writer's condition, Xiezhen's theory emphasized the producing process, he stressed "inspire and encounter" and "inspiration". Furthermore, he came up with that "inspire" was the outcome of "emotion encounter scene and then produce the marvelous effect with nature". Xiezhen revealed the phenomenon contents through the angle of the relation between the emotion and the scene. His theory made Yanyu's theory "inspire and gusto" become specific and also enlightened Wangfuzhi's "Xian liang theory". Xiezhen's "emotion encounter scene" theory also made some enlightenment to Wangfuzhi and Wangguowei's state theory. When talked about the image of poetry, Xiezhen put up with an importantconcept--"ambiguous". It means "not concrete"-- "When the poet writes apoem it not reach too similar because it will damage the reader's esthetic sensibilities; on the contrary it won't be unfamiliar because it will make reader can't soundly understand the poem." These thoughts reflected Xiezhen's unique opinion about the poetry's subtlety and also enlightened the descendant's poetry esthetics.Xiezhen's theory was more concrete and subtle than Yanyu's because his theory came out from the ancient works. It took a higher ratio in "SiMing Poetry Rules", such as: Comparing the structure and meaning of the former times' people's poem to recognize the similar and the divergence. He also studied the writer's intention and technique. His intention was to instruct the learner's composing. But it was also a pity that his concrete "poetry rules" of directing creation contradicted his "feel moved and inspired" theory. Though this wasn't a radical contradiction, it reflected the writer was often constrained by the principles. And this caused Xiezhen often fallen into the stereotype that was Jiangxi poetry school's opinion: "to renew a poetry by change something" and "to spoil a good thing by tampering with". But because Xiezhen put up with his poetry rules though discussing the ancient works and his analysis was definite. So it was very useful to instruct examine and appreciate. This was Xiezhen's contribution under the new historical age, whose theory made Yanyu's theory have more influence.
