This article takes the development and evolution of Chinese portraiture as the theme. Itdiscusses the aesthetic values, human spirits and art features through the analysis and research of theorigin, intermedia, art language characteristics, forms, representation techniques of the portraitureart. It demonstrates the cultural values of Chinese portraiture in the course of human arts andcivilization.The purpose of the article lies in providing my personal consideration to ignite the generalrecognization of Chinese portraiture on the art level, through the special topic research involved bythe subject in this major. It also lies in pursuing for the traditional aesthetic thoughts, human spiritsand academic values of Chinese portraiture art.Chinese portraiture art has enjoyed a long history. There are "many panting techniques", but"the vivid portraiture enjoys the longest history"(Vivid Portraiture Theory of diezhouxue PaintingEdition by Shen Zongqian, Qing Dynasty). During the long history of development and evolution,the artists have created many classic portraiture products. They have become an art form that boastsof special cultural charms and artistic features in China's arts and civilizations. Under thebackground that people of modern times are pursuing for classic significance and values, our insightof study and consideration look through the space-time of arts. With a height of historicaldevelopment and spirit of modern times, we are understanding, learning, studying the art traditionsof Chinese portraiture, the painting science and techniques, theory and practice, in order to pursuethe source of human spirit in Chinese portraiture.
