Research On Mechanism And Characteristics Of The Implicit Perfectionism

Perfectionism is an old topic in psychological research field. In recent 20 years, more and more researchers have been found that many mental disorders are related to perfectionism. Perfectionism affects mental health. But it is only beginning to study perfectionism.In this dissertation, we used the latest developed measure---Implicit Association Test (IAT) to design a series of experiments to study the mechanism, characteristics, stability and clinical significance of the implicit perfectionism. The dissertation includes five parts.In the first part, a review on the research background, the definition, the development of the research, the benefits and drawbacks of traditional methods on perfectionism was presented.The second part, some new research ways based on reaction time on social cognition research were introduced in detail.The third part consists of a series of experimental studies. The first three studies involved about theoretical problems including the mechanism of the implicit perfectionism, the relationship between the implicit perfectionism and the explicit perfectionism, the stability of the implicit perfectionism. The last explored how the implicit perfectionism and the explicit perfectionism correlate with depression and anxiety. The results were: (1) Undergraduates had the tendency of the implicit perfectionism. (2) The implicit perfectionism and the explicit perfectionism were different traits and did not correlate with each other significantly. (3) The implicit perfectionism was instable. When individuals were highly aroused by emotion, highly motivated and had plenty of cognition resource, the function of the implicit perfectionism would be inhibited.In the fourth part, we analyze the experimental results of the third part, especially the mechanism of the implicit perfectionism, the relationship between the explicit perfectionism and the implicit perfectionism, and the stability of the implicit perfectionism.In the last part, we analyze the research. And we put forward the farther research on the implicit perfectionism in the future.
