The Song family of Zhaozhou is a branch of the multitudinous families in Song Dynasty, this family remained unknown to the public until the period of Five Dynasties and Ten States, and in the early period of Northern Song Dynasty, it began to grow up, and had gone through three or four generations of more prosperous time, then gradually declined. Its prosperous time was short, only around 50 years, which enjoys the general characteristic of Song Dynasty family that thrives and fades in a short time. After Jingkang calamity, this family went through a life full of driftage sand migrations, although the activities of one of the family migrating to the south had been recorded in the annals, its official position had been no more curule, and also this family hadn't had great influence in current society. After Lizong emperor in Southern Song Dynasty, no member from this family had achieved a post, and from this time on it had thoroughly withdrew from the political arena. A majority of members from this family devote themselves to the academic field, and also enjoy great reputation both in literature and in history, so it can be called an academic family. The first part of this paper has introduced the official achievement of the chief members with posts in Song Dynast; the second part has textually researched the conditions of books collections and achievements in literature, history and art; the third part has discussed the marital relationships and the teachers and friends of this family; the fourth part has analyzed the reason why this family could get prosperous as well as decline.
