In this thesis I try to analyze the achievement of thought and art in WangZengqi's novels. Then inquire into his contribution to the modern Chinese literature.This thesis is consisted of four chapters. The frist chapter discusses the thought and content. His novels are far from politics and always look forward to the ideal of human life. He pursues this aim by hiding his thinking in the context of customs. And show it out by depicting individual character. The second chapter discusses the art style of WangZengqi' novels. He showed pristine and intact delight of human by using the tranquil style which just like lotus. His novels show us a beautiful of empty and calm by using narrate style like prose and narrate tactics which both have illusory and true. The third chapter discusses the relation between his novels and the traditional culture of our nation. He entered the traditional culture of our nation consciously. He accepted and transformed useful thinking and aesthetic resources in the traditional culture. He mixed the resource of ethics and aesthetics which came from Confucianism Taoist and Buddhism individually. He stood on modern life and his own life request to do some transformation. The last chapter discusses the contribution of his creation in the Chinese modern literature. At the beginning of new age, he and some other novelist who set foot in customs and culture create the writing of roots novels. This kind of creation breaks the way of YanAn literature creation. This thesis has the opinion that WangZengqi's novels standing on the modern Chinese and facing to the world. His novels are from his own life request and pay attention to transforming the traditional culture of our nation creatively. His novels show us modern and nation at the same time.
