Song lyrics, as the gem of Chinese classical literature, receive much attention at home and abroad. Many translators contribute a lot to the translation of Song lyrics into foreign languages, especially English. Xu Yuanchong, among the excellent translators, selects 300 Song lyrics and translates the same into English. His translated version of 300 Song lyrics draws much attention from the scholars and critics, many of whom study the translation mainly in a qualitative manner which is comparatively subjective. This paper aims to analyze whether there are tendencies of universals of translation towards the translated version with the aid of corpus, which is more objective and scientific. In addition, this paper also explores the translation compensation strategies applied in the process of translation. The study shows that there are indeed universals of translation in the translated version and the application of translation compensation strategies assists to realize the translation of Chinese classical lyrics.
