The Application Of Translation Theories To Mechanical Engineering English Translation-From The Perspective Of Stylistics

The present paper adopts the method of stylistic analysis to study Sci-tech translation. This paper applies translating theories to mechanical engineering English translation from the perspective of stylistics. It is argued in the paper that besides the general linguistic analysis, the analysis of style should also be made in translating Sci-tech texts. The special content of science and technology inevitably influences the language form, and therefore, the language for science and technology certainly takes on its unique stylistic features. The stylistic features of Sci-tech texts include accuracy, clarity and conciseness . The analysis of Sci-tech style and the subsequent reproduction of its style will help to achieve faithfulness in meaning and in style, which will bring about good translations.The present paper presents stylistic characteristics of mechanical engineering articles as well as skills of Chinese-English translation on it. Finally, the paper concludes that a good CST(Chinese for Science and Technology) translator must have a sound knowledge of both English and Chinese language and a familiarity with the relevant scientific fields and the technical terms. Most importantly, stylistic analysis is critical in Chinese-English translation.
