This paper seeks to explore the character of Lightness & Meaningfulness by appreciating Feng Zikai's works and analyzing his life style, and to reveal the poetic character of Feng Zikai's essays.Feng Zikai is a special person in the 20th century in China who holds several titles such as cartoonist, religionist and essayist. He has his own style in doing essays; his Yuan Yuan Hall Essays Collection had been quite popular in the early days of its birth. The Japanese translator Koujirou Yoxigawa once said that Feng Zikai is"an artist who appears to be one to the best effect"among all the Chinese artists.According to Twenty four Characters of Poem, a book written by Sikong Tu in the Tang Dynasty, Lightness & Meaningfulness is the second poetic character. It has double meaning in literature appreciation and life philosophy. In the former aspect, it is about the beauty appreciation range, which features lightness, simplicity, elegance and modesty. In the later aspect, it implies a kind of vision or style of living, which features friendliness, prudence, indifference to fame and wealth, and harmony with nature, etc. It is a kind of simple and happy life style, as well as a kind of quiet and peaceful value pursuit.Feng Zikai's essays are mainly about children, relatives and friends, and worldly life, etc., all of which are simple, graceful, roundish and meaningful. Due to his firm and powerful life attitude, he can live simply and happily, while undisturbed either by favor or disgrace. Lightness & Meaningfulness is not only the character of his essays and cartoons, but also the character of his whole life.
