Humor Being Regarded As A Basic Category In Aesthetics

In this paper the especial aesthetics characteristics of humor are specifically observed and studied based on Lin Yutang's literature and art idea of humor. Being regarded as a basic category in aesthetics, the main contents of humor are the silent comprehension in one's heart of hearts, it not only makes the subject accept the reality in reason, but also transcend the reality in feeling, and mitigates the contradiction between the reality and the ideal to a certain extent. The humor is often shown as a sort of criticism to the practice life. The critical basic condition is really to accept the reality life (but not refuse). The ideal of humor literature and art that was proposed by Lin Yutang is exactly the kind of aesthetic one being accepted in a critical way. To some extent, it is because of Lin Yutang's efforts that the humor possesses its especial esthetic position in Chinese circumstances.In this paper the general assessment of Lin Yutang's humor sense from the current research is presented in the preface. In chapter 1, the general translation situation and the influence of humor in Chinese circumstances are described in detail. In chapter 2, the specific direction and the deep contents of Lin Yutang's humor sense are specifically investigated. In chapter 3, the general progress of humor and the especial characteristics in the aesthetics history are analyzed as a basic aesthetic category in order to give a relative explicit position to the humor itself in aesthetics.
