The New Period was a truly transition period of contemporary China. During that time, the Explorative Drama in the New Period not only assimilated the strengths of the western drama, but learned from the national opera. Compared with the past, the exploration of drama in the New Period paid more attention to tradition. In the 1980s, the understanding to the relationship of drama and opera, modernization and nationalization, modernism and realism gradually moved towards maturity.We should examine the origin and evolution of relationships between drama and opera to know more about the reasons why the Explorative Drama returned to tradition. On the one hand, drama encountered crisis after experiencing short-term prosperity at the beginning of the New Period. On the other hand, opera was also trying to innovate. The relationships between drama and opera became closer.Opera explored the provision of the light for drama in many aspects. First of all, the virtual practices in performances of opera were similar with the Assumption on the stage of drama. The re-found on the Assumption expanded the possibility of drama reflecting life. What's more, the opera attached importance to lyricism and artistry on the pursuit of aesthetics. Last but not least, the high comprehensiveness inspired the Explorative Drama.Obviously, drama and opera are two unique forms, but they also affect each other. The Explorative Drama in the New Period inherited the Traditional Chinese Opera, which was a regression, even more, a beyond. Only by succeeding to the Nationalization for the position, and to Modernization-oriented, so that can make the drama rapidly move towards the world.
