Tapestry weaving is an ancient and traditional craft and in Europe it can data back to pre-civilization of Western Europe. Even though few weaving works have been saved completely, many of them have been recorded in the classical literatures of ancient Greek and Rome and gradually this craft is evolved as a kind of independent art form which is influenced by society, politics, economy and vogue. In short, the European tapestry art is a perfect combination of practice and aesthetic and it has extraordinarily high art value not only in the field of world art and design but also in the field of art.Flemish tapestry is one of the sources of the European tapestry art and to some extent its developmental history and art style represents the European tapestry art. Besides, it also reflects the European culture and aesthetic from a different angle and evolves into a new art form. As the typical representative of the European tapestry art, in a traditional and ingenious way, it 'weaves' together the art and civilization spirit which flow in the river of the European history, in the sense that its unique charming adequately provides humans with the material and spiritual concern, just as a famous saying goes: it makes people see the eternal spring in the cold winter night.Flemish tapestry art is a 'moving monument' and it carries the cultures in various times and great many artists' sentiments. In this thesis, by means of the study and exploration on the history, the content and the representation form of the 'moving monument' as well as its art value and realistic significance, its unique charm and internal nature can be deeply appreciated. Further, the author hopes to contribute to more profoundly understand and master the law of tapestry art and hence to establish the basis for its benign and sustainable development, especially nowadays, in the age of pluralism in art.
