As one of the fiber art practitioner,when i saw some cutting‐edge art exhibitions, I would be interested by those works made by soft materials.Those works belong to modern fiber art because of properties of its materials,such works have been widely accepted and led to great response.However,from the perspective of fiber art development,we will find a aggressive changes time and time again from the traditional tapestry that the ancient form of fiber art from a half centry ago to the contemporary fiber art,not only the form and the conceptions,but also materials and techniques have undergone radical changes again and again.When opening this history,“International Biennale of tapestry in Lausanne”an important artistic event will vividly display the process of the evolution of the fiber art.As a role of detector in the fiber art,“International Biennale of tapestry in Lausanne” always pursued the modern spirit.It has been holden sixteen exhibitions,begin in1962to the end of1995.It has contributed greatly to the development of the fiber art,explored the mankind’s understanding about the relationship between art and our life,and brought worshipful aspect to art.Now, looking back upon these sixteen exhibitions in30years,I will try to give some concrete analysis of the relationship between these exhibitions and development of the modern fiber art,and some related issues that exhibitions encountered,and illustrate that the spirit of experimentation hold by the “International Biennale of tapestry in Lausanne” have opened the new world of the fiber art.While the fiber art as a distinctive category of art wound face some new challenges in the context of contemporary art.
