Vocabulary acquisition has been considered as one of the most concerned issues to the EFL/L2 learners, for vocabulary competence is at the heart of communicative competence, and the size of vocabulary can usually reflect one's language achievement. Of the factors that influence the learner's language learning, vocabulary learning strategy is proved to be the most important one.In the past twenty years , quite a lot of researches on English learning strategies have been carried out by scholars both at home and abroad to explore the relationship between the language learning strategies and second language acquisition (SLA). Research on English learning strategies in China has made rapid progress since the 1990s. More and more language researchers have got to know the importance of language learning strategies in foreign language learning. However, very little research has been done on vocabulary learning strategies taken by the vocational school students.For Chinese vocational school students, vocabulary is a big problem in their English learning, which is most likely to frustrate them in interests and self-confidence in English learning. Therefore, vocabulary learning strategies among secondary vocational school students are a question that deserves exploring.This study aims at carrying out a research on the current situation of English vocabulary learning strategies used by some vocational school students. By undertaking the questionnaire among the vocational school students and conducting data collection and analysis, an intensive investigation on the students'vocabulary learning strategies has been carried out. Meanwhile, some appropriate approaches to the training of vocabulary learning strategies and the acquisition of vocabulary have also been obtained.The implication of this study for future English teaching and learning is that the vocabulary learning strategies will help students not only to learn specific words but also to acquire vocabulary in different ways. It is absolutely vital that students will be able to help themselves with appropriate strategies instruction better, which will help them to be good English learners in the end.
