Among the vast sky of music stars of the 19th century, Finish composer Sibelius was undoubtedly a bright star. During his life he composed many works that showed the balance and simplicity of classicism, the passion and gloominess of romanticism and strong characteristics of Northern Europe as well, not only bringing precious national treasure to Finland, but also leaving a rich music heritage to the world.His compositions almost include all types, of which symphonies best embody the charm of music language. The dissertation chooses "Symphony No.2" as study subject and music form and theme melody as cutting point to study the characteristics of the above two aspects in Sibelius' composition.It includes the following four aspects:Chapter 1 Briefly introduces the composer's life and the background of "Symphony No.2".Chapter 2 Studies the music form of "Symphony No.2" in a macro way, mainly analyzing music form of individual movement so as to view its features of music form.Chapter 3 Studies the 17 topic melodies of "Symphony No.2" in a micro way, analyzing the melodic line, rhythm, tonality, timbre, and summing up the features of the theme melody.Chapter 4 Briefly deals with the relationship of music form and theme melody-unity of form and content in music.The research of the dissertation tries to expose composing features of "Symphony No.2" in form and theme and on that base further discovers the multiple creation ideas (classical, romantic, national) of the composer in the composition.
