Interval Cell Techniques, The Use Of Sibelius's Second Symphony

This thesis mainly concerns the study of composing technique on interval cells in Sibelius's Symphony No.2. It focuses on the mode of interval cells in microcosmic structure, macroscopic structure and medium of musical extension, carrying out a series of investigation in respect of composing technique as well as other related issues on Sibelius's works in an extensive way. The thesis adopts the way of letter depiction combining together example illustration. The thesis is composed of introduction, text and annotations and conclusion as well as some related documents citations in the appendix, among which text is composed of two chapter.The first chapter of the thesis mainly gives an extensive description and discussion on the composing technique of romanticism and classicalism as well as the structuralism of 20- century music in Sibelius$music works.The second chapter of the thesis mainly gives a vivid and precise description and discussion on the composing technique of interval cells in Sibelius's Symphony No.2. The chapter studies interval cells on which how to construct motive, theme, harmony, modes and digit interval in microcosmic structure; which how to construct symmetry, cluster and sound stream etc in macroscopic structure; which how to construct transposition, variation, evolution, decomposition and combination etc in medium of musical extension. The writer studies composing technique on interval cells to look for the composing process of Sibeliuseworks and to better understand music composition.
