From late 1980s to early 1990s, Wang Shuo played an important role in Chinese literature. Although Literature today has lost its stirring effect, Wang's novels still hold a great influence on it. This has a close relationship with his playful style. Some people even remark"Wang Shuo's advantage is his language."The most outstanding character in Wang's language is banter. It is he who initiated modern banter art in Chinese literature. In his novels, all the things are bantered. This is a new narrative style in contemporary literature. There is a great charm in Wang's bantering language.The introduction of this paper covers a general introduction of"Wang Shuo phenomena", his primary writing experience.The body of this paper includes three parts. Part 1 mainly analyzes the forms and types of banter in Wang's works. And part 2 is the analysis of his banter features, namely, the use of spoken language, the taste of a ruffian and humor. In the section about the use of spoken language, a new use of Beijing dialect, dialogue style and strangeness in his works are talked about. The taste of a ruffian is mainly shown by his rebelling and rivalry in his language. Humor is the notable feature of Wang Shuo's novels. Imitation is a most important means used by Wang Shuo to achieve humorous effect humor. This article mainly discusses the causes of humor form this aspect. Part 3 is about the relationship between banter and the art feature of Wang's works, the contribution and significance of banter to his novels.In the final part of the paper, Wang Shuo's banter style to modern novels'contribution is affirmed. But, mostly this part is about disadvantages of Wang's banter style.
