The Recently History And Development Of The Sino-Japanese Dispute Over The East China Sea

As an alone unit, the East China Sea plays an important role on geopolitics. Since 1984, bound on the East China Sea between China and Japan had changed again and again. Now, because of the development of the international ocean law , the Sino-Japanese dispute over the East China Sea became acute .With particular history and background, it is closely related to complex profits, concerning various rights of both China and Japan. Therefore, it will be helpful to analyze the cause and the future of disputes from the angle of historical geography for the probably solution, as well as to realize the cooperation of the China and Japan in the East China Sea as soon as possible.This article is divided into four parts, its basic content as follow:This paper first introduces the condition of the East China Sea, including geography position and natural environment of the continental shelf, Okinawa, Diaoyu Island, etc. Second, this paper relates the history and development of the Sino-Japan disputes. After Meiji Reform, Japan carried out overseas expansion policy had launched the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, and then invaded and occupied the Okinawa, Taiwan, Diaoyu Islands. This is the earliest source of the dispute over the East China Sea. The claims of continental shelf and exclusive economic zone caused the modern disputes between China and Japan. The essence of the dispute over the delimitation is fierce contest for the resource of the East China Sea. Both China and Japan had their own claims about the sovereignty of Diaoyu Islands and its effect on the delimitation of the East China Sea. China has entered into the consults and negotiations with Japan after that the dispute became acute in 2004. Then, China has entered into the consults and negotiations with Japan. Now, China and Japan want to shelve the dispute for a period and work for joint development.The third part of this article analyzes the Focus of the Sino-Japanese dispute over the East China Sea. They are principle of delimitation, the effect of the Okinawa Trough, the sovereignty of Diaoyu Islands, etc. At last, this article has tried to judge the consequence of the problem about the East China Sea, and some effect solutions.When facing the disputes, Chinese government sticks to the promise all along, put forwards the suggestion of"setting the disputes aside, and then to develop it jointly", and tries our best to solve the issue peacefully. According to a Sino-Japanese joint press communiqué, China will cooperate to resolve a dispute with Japan over the development of natural gas in the East China Sea. Finally, on the basis of above analysis, the author sums up some main factors considered by relevant states , then put forward the idea that, the problems about the East China Sea could be probably dealt with in peaceful and cooperative environment, if the consults and negotiations can be continued with the conscientious attitude. But China should insist its position on the negotiations about joint development, and stand up for rights of the East China Sea.
