The Holy Spirit Gifts And S. Korean Protestant Church

This thesis focuses on the relation between the Holy Spirit Gifts and the S.Korean Protestantism church and then discusses the definition of the Holy Spirit Gifts, the origin of the Holy Spirit Gifts, the purpose of the Holy Spirit Gifts, as well as the classification and differentiation of it. Then relates the three developing stages of the Holy Spirit Gifts Movement in S.Korean: Initial stage—The renew movement which was composed of the Methods of Bible Study Meeting and Pray Meeting took a very important role in Laying the solid foundation of the later development of church. At the same time, the atmosphere that believed the logos and pray was gradually being formed so that followers constantly told their crimes; concentrated on the rules and preached earnestly. Peak stage—The number of followers obviously increased through the Holy Spirit Gifts Movement. The positive influence, for example, the increase of followers; the formation of pray culture and the activity of spirituality community was promoted by the Institute of Pray; the community of religious service and so on. Stagnation Stage—Though the Holy Spirit Gifts Movement brought about prosperity for the S.Korean church, this also brought church the negative influence. They were the misunderstanding of the Holy Spirit Gifts; of the Holy Spirit and these people full of Holy Spirit and of the Institute of Pray Movement and forth so that they hinder the S.Korean church from growing healthily. From the early 1900s, the number of S.Korean church is at a standstill or even reduction situation. Because of the poor understanding about the Holy Spirit Gifts Movement, the influence of the S.Korean church on society is weakening. The third chapter expounds the main employment of the Holy Spirit Gifts Movement in S.Korean: the Language Gifts, the Service Gifts and the Miracle Gifts. The Language Gifts consists of training disciples and holding the renew meeting. The Service Gifts tells us the service in and outside the church. The Miracle Gifts mainly refers to exorcising the devils, curing the disease and speaking the native language. The last chapter, after discussing the positive and negative effect of the Holy Spirit Gifts on S.Korean society, some suggestions were offered below by the author: Set up Spirit Theology in S. Korea church. Make the followers believe in the Gifts; understand the Gifts; long for the Gifts; confirm the Gifts; develop and use the Gifts. Meanwhile, emphasize the importance of love. Point out that the natures of the Gifts are love and service. So, the followers should be full of love and base the use of the Gifts on servicing the churches and the others.
