In this thesis the Body theory was applied to analyze Hong Ying's K. The neo-Body discussion launched in the 1970's and is expanded as a topic in which multi-disciplines join. My thesis focus on the relationship between the Body theory and individual literary writing as well as the limitation of Body in writing practices, and suggests combine the critical insight with the humanism which has been the long premise to Body theory and literature. Compared with other authors, Hong Ying is experiential uniqueness that let author herself and workers overlap to be the best object of the Body and literature study. In Daughter of the River, its bodily-narrative integrates body and soul, the individual and the public. Moreover, in K, a controversial novel, the author tried to dispose the complex themes of the cross-culture and Daoist Art of Love within the length of novel. Beyond the pages, K was charged of insulting late parents and banned in Mainland China. K got lots of attentions in China and in West, because of concentrating a lot of hot subjects, it becomes a proper instance to review the novel artistically and bodily, especially, when the body is highlighted in writing. The possible avant-garde characters and demerits in one Body would be checked through K.This thesis consists of 4 chapters as described below:1. Writing the presentation of lives. Body is an aging topic for philosophy, the rebirth in the 1970s has involved in the introspection toward the western modernity. In this chapter, I emphasize the humanism both in Body studies and literature, and promote the individual literary writing, yet, opposing the bodily sex, desire, etc. which indulge in literary practices that degenerated literature to be a product in Consumption Society.2. From Daughter of the River to K. Hong Ying is the protagonist in biographical novel Daughter of the River in reality. The unique experience guarantees that she writes uniquely. Bodily-narrative is a writing strategy to conciliate the problem of digressive in individual literary writing with the narrative techniques. Novel Daughter of the River is the paradigm to bodily-narrative that perfects the relationship between body and soul, and the individual writing and the public receiving.3. Bloomsbury-sex-China formula. The title arouses the interest of about what function the sex is taking as a media in two cultures, Is it merely the Sensualism or cultural elements or soul or something beyond, Is it personal experience or just to serve the commercial taste?4. Bloomsbury-culture-China. With the method developed in comparative Imagology, the concept of the Other and the Self are used to represent K's cultural logic and to uncover the death of the protagonists in the novel. The other part of this chapter is devoted to K's lawsuit and tries to find what power behind imposed K to be a banned book.
