Wen Yiduo is a typical pursuer of the poetry arts in the history of the new poetry, whose masterpiece the Red Candle and the Billabong show notable experienced spirit and it's just these two poetry anthologies that helped establish his style and stature in the history of the new poetry. The former changed blunt and watery abuse totally of colloquial poetries of initial stage by his esthetical style, while what's much better is that the latter has leaded the way in the tideway of the new classical poetry. This paper tries to compare Mr. Wen's new and classical poems to make clear the development course of his new poetry and penetrate into discussing its new diathesis according to the difference and relation between aesthetic structure and function, and based on what mentioned above to find out the value of his new poems and its effects on the developing of modern poetry. As a poet of the interim, Mr. Wen published lots of smart old-style poems in his youth, while his new poems showed some outstanding unique character. Comparing his new and old poetry, we can easily find that: on the one hand, there was some unquenchable old trace in his early poems; on the other hand, he tried to inherit and regress to domestic poetic tradition. As far as the language style is concerned, Mr. Wen is a sturdy supporter of colloquialism. He tried to create works in spoken language consciously such as using a number of structural auxiliary words and some new adjectives in view of the situation of rigescent words of the classical poetry. As far as the form is concerned, Mr. Wen has leaded the way in introspection and construction of the rules and forms of the new poetry. He pointed out that the rules and the forms were the characteristics of all the arts, especially the poems. moreover, he indicated that the rules and the forms of the new poetry were different from the classical one. With regard to the techniques of expression of the new poetry, there were some striking coherence of inherent pattern between some of his early poems and classical ones written in his youth. As his going deep into practice of the new poetry, Wen Yiduo was far away from this complexion gradually, and he found two ways for the development of the new poetry: novelization and dramalization, and it's also easy to find the increasing of narration in his own works. As regards the contents, there are lots of imagination of a powerful and unconstrained style in the Red Candle, which displays esthetical style by quoting the imagoes on death of western poems, colorful flowery language and grand modification. However, the Billabong has broken away from the imagination of a powerful and unconstrained style and transferred to face the gloomy earthy world to display the trueness with deep feeling of grief.Summarizing my opinion about Wen Yiduo and his new poetry at last.
