As an assistant tool in language education, corpus is a new study field in applied linguistics. Based on a large collection of authentic materials and advanced softwares, corpus makes an easy and quick analysis of the greatest amounts of linguistic data possible, and the learners are provided with a new approach to learn a language independently. Corpus approach is employed more and more widely in language researches since the application of advanced computer and the emergence of enormous text corpus and well-designed concordance software.This thesis centers on the HVTE vocabulary teaching in corpus-based contexts. The main body of the paper is divided into three parts. The first part aims at providing a clear, mufti-dimensional definition for vocabulary knowledge, and the proposition of HVTE vocabulary teaching in corpus-based context, based on which the rest of the paper will develop. The second part intends to give theoretical supports to this proposition, and render an insightful view on it by reviewing the influential theoretical achievements in relevant domains of corpus linguistic research and second language acquisition study and linking them to the author's proposition. The literature review covers Lexical Grammar and Data-based driven learning in the field of teaching and learning theory. The foci are researches on the role of corpus to the effect of vocabulary teaching and learning. Part three reports on an empirical study, which was been conducted by the author in the hope of testing the effect of corpus in intentional vocabulary teaching and learning. On the basis of a case study, the aspects in which corpus can be applied in vocabulary teaching were investigated and illustrated. During and at the end of the research, a vocabulary test and questionnaires were designed and answered to test the effectiveness of the corpus-based teaching model. The results have been analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Samples of using corpus in vocabulary teaching and learning are proposed in the last section of this part. In this empirical study, the writer tries to apply a new source of English teaching materials to vocational colleges, find a more effective way to utilize corpus and ultimately give some suggestions to HVTE education.
