"Desolation", the literary spirit and emotion keynote of Zhang Ailing's novel, is an inbred tragic consciousness, reflecting the Zhang Ailing's tragic experience in her time and the society, which makes her to analyse the human hypocrisy, selfish, vulgar and distortion through realistic style with revealing the human life in loneliness and floating, the fate full of predicament and helpless, the lives with emptiness and disillusionment. Owing to historical reasons, it has always been disputed on Zhang Ailing in the academic community. This article attempts to interpret and analyse the tragic life she described to show the beauty of desolation, in order to study on the specific style of tragic consciousness, the situation of life, the contents in the creation and the aesthetic style in her novels written based on desolation.The thesis is divided into three parts. The first chapter studying on the tragedy visual threshold describes the tragic fate of women in her novels and finds the perspective on human hypocrisy, through an analysis of Zhang Ailing's understanding on tragic life with her pedigree and experience. The second chapter describes the connotation of tragedy in Zhang Ailing's novels on the content about the lack of love, helpless life and an unhappy marriage. The third chapter is to analyze the characteristics of the tragedy of Zhang Ailing's novels, describing from the "nostalgia" life, "desolation" emotional, and "gorgeous" ideality.The paper finds the reasons on the formation of desolate tragic consciousness of Zhang Ailing, and reveals the specific creation personality in her novels through the perspective on human hypocrisy and describing the tragic fate of women, in order to find the charm of her books live through out the ages.
