Chinese EFL learners'writing has been receiving more and more attention from the public. This paper mainly studies the"substitution"in writing. As a matter of fact, there are a lot of people who have conducted some related researches. However, the comparative studies with Chinese and foreign corpora are relatively few. Thus, this paper tends to use CLEC (Chinese Learners of English Corpus: English writing) and LOB (The Lancaster/Oslo-Bergen Corpus: English natives'online writing) to do the comparative analysis, in the hope that through the analysis this paper will be able to discover the respective uses, characteristics and differences of"substitution"both in Chinese EFL learners'writing and in English native's writing. In addition, this paper, from the perspective of Second Language Acquisition Theory, intends to find out the potential reasons causing the characteristics of"substitution"in Chinese EFL learners'writing. The main purpose of this paper lies in pointing out the importance of cohesion and coherence in English discourses or writings, finding out the problems existing in the process of Chinese EFL learners'English acquisition and seeking out the reasons inducing the above-mentioned problems. Of course, the most important point in this paper rests with doing the researches concerning the uses of"substitution"and the related reasons, so as to give some suggestions to English teaching in China and finally to enhance Chinese EFL learners'writing ability.
