A Study On New York's Municipal Corruption During The Late 19^th Century

This paper mainly analyses the New York's Municipal Corruption during the Late 19th Century.The foreword introduces the different definition and different kind of Corruption in different scholar's academic research about municipal corruption. Then generalize the effects of corruption and evaluate different scholar's academic research about New York's Municipal Corruption during the late 19^th Century.This paper includes three parts as following:Chapter One introduces the general situation of New York during the late 19th Century, retrospect the development and the beginning of prosperity of the New York City in the 19th Century, explains the establishment of the New York's Municipal System, analyses the New York's problem in rapid urbanization, at last analyses the shortcoming of the New York's Municipal System.Chapter Two is the most important part of this paper. This chapter discusses the relationship between City Boss, Political Machine and New York's Municipal Corruption. This chapter analyses the form, background and the reason of New York's Municipal Corruption, explains the function of the immigrants, City Bosses and the Political Machine in the New York's Municipal Corruption. At last, this chapter introduces the positive effects of the City Boss.Chapter Three discusses the relationship between Irish immigrants and New York's Municipal Corruption; explain the reason why Irish immigrants become the Poll Machine of the City Boss.The conclusion summarizes briefly the full paper, draws some views on the New York's Municipal Corruption during the late 19^th Century.
