At the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Zheng group set up a regime in Taiwan by force of arms, confronting central Qing government over the strait and posing a great threat to the security of coastal areas. In order to conquer Zheng group completely, the Qing government prepared for unification positively. At that time, Yao Qi-sheng was the Governor of Fujian province. Under his leadership, a good situation for the unification was taking shape. Based on all these, the Qing government conquered zheng group and reunified the state. This dissertation takes the theory of textual analysis from History with the guide of Materialism, studying Yao's contribution in the reunification of Taiwan. Based on the former studies, this dissertation tries to make a comment on the event.Chapter one is the introduction, mainly dealing with the importance of this study and how the question is put forward. In addition, a review is carried together with the introduction of the way in which materials are collected and the analytical methods.Chapter two mainly deals with Yao's early legendary experiences. Yao was forced to retire from the governor of Xiangshan country. But he later became a rich merchant in his business.Chapter three elaborates on Yao's pacification of Fujian Province. Yao made great contribution in the conquest of Geng and Zheng's army. Further more, he made great efforts to relieve people's burdens and miseries in Fujian Province.Chapter four details Yao's preparation for the conquest of Taiwan. Yao took the responsibility of reunifying Taiwan and formed a good environment for the reunification. In addition, he had the courage to risk his political career and recommended Shilang as the Leader of navy.Chapter five studies Yao's contribution in the conquest of Taiwan and his way of dealing with the problems arising from the conquest. There was disagreement between Yao and Shilang before the reunification of Taiwan. In the process of reunification, Yao made great contribution in many aspects. It is Yao who put forward the plan of putting Taiwan under the sovereign of Qing Government after the conquest.Chapter six is the conclusion which makes a comment on the historical figures and events concerned.
